Ingredients

  • 3 ripe Hass avocados
  • 2 tbsp lime juice about 1 lime
  • ¼ cup red onion finely diced
  • ¼ cup cilantro chopped
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and minced
  • 1 small tomato diced (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • ½ tsp salt or to taste

Instructions

  • Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a bowl.
  • Mash with a fork to desired consistency.
  • Add lime juice, garlic, and salt. Mix well.
  • Stir in onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and tomato (if using).
  • Taste and adjust salt/lime as needed.
  • Serve immediately with tortilla chips or cover tightly to store.

Notes

  • Ripe Avocados: Should yield slightly when pressed—firm avocados won’t mash well.
  • Spice Control: Omit jalapeño or add a pinch of cayenne for heat.
  • No Browning: Extra lime juice and airtight storage help preserve color.
  • Texture: For chunkier guac, leave some avocado pieces unmashed.
  • Variations: Add corn, black beans, or crumbled feta for a twist.
