- 3 ripe Hass avocados
- 2 tbsp lime juice about 1 lime
- ¼ cup red onion finely diced
- ¼ cup cilantro chopped
- 1 jalapeño seeded and minced
- 1 small tomato diced (optional)
- 1 garlic clove minced
- ½ tsp salt or to taste
Cut avocados in half, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a bowl.
Mash with a fork to desired consistency.
Add lime juice, garlic, and salt. Mix well.
Stir in onion, jalapeño, cilantro, and tomato (if using).
Taste and adjust salt/lime as needed.
Serve immediately with tortilla chips or cover tightly to store.
- Ripe Avocados: Should yield slightly when pressed—firm avocados won’t mash well.
- Spice Control: Omit jalapeño or add a pinch of cayenne for heat.
- No Browning: Extra lime juice and airtight storage help preserve color.
- Texture: For chunkier guac, leave some avocado pieces unmashed.
- Variations: Add corn, black beans, or crumbled feta for a twist.
